Bridal Beauty Tips | Olivia & Missy

8/03/2019

One of the questions I get asked a lot is for recommendations for an amazing hair/makeup team. The second question I get asked a lot is what is the best look for my wedding day when it comes to pictures. I thought I would ask the pros on this one so my future brides can see what the experts say on what you should do leading up to your wedding & what to do on your wedding day. Here are their bridal beauty tips.

Olivia Garvin: Makeup Artist

Every bride wants to look and feel their best on the day of their wedding. Looking flawless in person and in pictures is easy, if you follow these key tips and tricks!

  1. Skincare is a must! I recommend starting with your first facial 6 months- 1 year prior to the wedding to make sure your skin looks radiant, and free of blemishes on the day of the wedding. Remember that cleansing and moisturizing skin, twice daily, will allow for a beautiful canvas the day of the wedding. Great makeup starts with great skin!
  2. Line your water line! This technique has gained a bad rep over the years, but it actually does wonders for the eyes. Using a deep chocolate brown color will open, and brighten up the eyes, while defining them and making them look more striking in pictures. If you aren’t a believer, just try it- it really makes a huge difference.
  3. When your makeup is completed on the wedding day, take a hand mirror and look at yourself outside in the natural light. This will help you see if anything needs to be adjusted.
  4. More blush = youthful, glowing, “bridal” cheeks! So pretty in person and in photos!
  5. Make sure to bring a touch up lip color with you (this is probably the most important tip of all!) for the reception, as lip color tends to be the first thing that fades. Once your lip wears off, the look will seem incomplete. Carry this lip color with you in your purse, or give it to your planner/maid of honor/bridesmaid to hold on to.
  6. If and when you cry, make sure to blot your tears versus wiping, and try to catch your tears before they hit your cheeks, so they don’t streak your blush. Be aware- happy tears can catch you by surprise!

Missy Theige: Hair Dresser

When it comes to hair as easy as it may seem there’s key elements I always have my brides consider. First thing is what is your vibe and what climate are we looking at. Esthetic and temperature come into play so much it’s not even funny. I always look at pictures of my brides in their dresses and snaps of their venues. This starts to create the visual. Hair tells a story and so does your dress and venue. To keep things cohesive they all need to talk so I always start there. Then we look at time of the season and location. When high temperatures are involved we need to let those elements make sense with hair looks. If its 100 degrees out and you want huge bouncy curls down to your bum…you might want to think about how hot that will be and the fact that you’ll be sweating your bum off. Sweaty elements change the chemistry of the hair and those bouncy babes might start to change their look. In these cases a beautiful chignon can keep you cool and make your hair hands free the whole night, not to mention who doesn’t love a dreamy updo.

Truly look at how you wear your hair day to day as well. If a certain style and look is a must for you just consider all elements that will play into your hair day.

Other than that I say HAVE FUN with your wedding hair! I love adding extensions for fullness and length. Add details, flowers, glitz, family heirloom broaches…go for it! I love it all and if you love it you should have it.

My last tip is always ask your hair stylist the perfect prep for that mornings do. There’s a lot of info out there and prep is the most important part of these looks and if we start out without a blank canvas our end desired results can be tampered.

Hope these hair tips help, cheers beautiful brides!
