Couple’s Location Guide- Northern California Edition

1/02/2023

Shown below are a few of my favorite locations to do couple’s sessions at. When choosing your location think about what outfits you want to wear and what feel you want the session to have. Some of my favorite sessions are the ones where couples pick locations based off of places that make sense for their story. For example, one couple picked their favorite coffee shop in the city, then we went to a redwood grove where they had their first date at and ended up at the beach where they fell in love. I am just giving you all ideas so that you know you can be as creative as you want to be!

Some of these locations are a little bit out of the ordinary. Those locations usually make for the best shoots and we can explore how to make it unique for you guys too! I encourage you to think outside of the box and find a location that is perfect for you two!

  1. Occidental, California: Redwoods and Small town city

2. Rooftop San Fransisco, California (You need to know someone with rooftop access in SF for this type of location)

3. Rooftop Petaluma, California

4. Point Reyes Seashore, California (Foggy day in Winter vs. sunny day in Spring)

5. Mendocino, California: My favorite location for diversity- It has redwoods, beach and cliffs all within 10 min drive of each other.

6. In home sessions: You could use your home or rent an airbnb with amazing light and decor that fits your style.

7. Chrissy Field- San Fransisco, California: My couples combine it with a coffee shop, tacos, the beach or an in home session!

8. San Fransisco: Urban spots- China Town, Sunset blvd area (colorful houses- shot while second shooting for Monique Bianca), Alta Park (Staircase and view), Ina Coolbirth Park (beautiful park with a staircase, flowers, view of coit tower).

9. Studio: There is one near SF, Santa Rosa and one in Sonoma I love you could rent!

10. Rooftop shoot and makeshift garage door studio- This one we could brainstorm together and do floral installations or make it unique to your story!

11. Basketball courts or Tennis courts are hands down one of my favorite to shoot at. You do not need a basketball or tennis racket- we can be artsy and have fun with just the courts.

12. Pee Wee Golf (Choose a funky spot you guys love and have a fun date night while we shoot too!)

13. Airbnb Guerneville rental with kayak dock. You could also just rent a kayak and go kayaking as well as take photos on the beach:

14. Transportation: (Airplane, Train, Car, Ferry) This makes for such a great shoot and we can plan it around something that goes along with your story.

15. Botanical Garden in SF- Be prepared for humidity and a little bit of haze in some photos, but it is stunning! This was shot while I was second shooting for the amazing Monique Bianca.
