Eli and I started dating over 12 years ago. We met at a concert at a little white church. He was always the guy on stage playing music and I was always his biggest fan that admired him from afar. Finally, after some time our friend introduced us and since then we have been in each other lives. We love to play basketball as a family, hike, travel, eat a lot of Sol Food and garden together. We also love eating screamin mimis ice cream as a family as our treat. (They have non dairy options yay!)
We are truly a foodie by nature, so if I were to elope right now (vow renewal for us) I would plan the menu around Eli and I’s favorite foods. We love puerto rican food, Spanish food, Mexican food, Vietnamese food and African food as a shared love. We really love all food, so narrowing the list down would be hard, but I am here to help you with some tips on how to do so. Here we go!
First of all, figure out if you are hiring a chef or having a family member cook this meal for you all. If you are hiring a chef I would ask them what their in season reccomendations are based upon your favorite foods and take it from there. If you are having a family member cook for your elopement then follow my tips below.
Find out what is in season for your elopement. If it is summer you could incorporate lots of fresh veggies like a garden salad, tomatoes and fresh fruit (like plums, peaches and blackberries). If it is fall you could incorporate fall squashes and apples. If it is winter you could incorporate some lemons, oranges or anything citrus. It saves you money and tastes better when it is in season.
Plan the menu around foods you both enjoy and have great memories of. It could be your first date meal or favorite date night spot that you try and recreate. Also, plan it around the theme of the wedding if wanted. For example, if it is a SF city hall wedding having a meal centered around fish would be fitting and amazing!
Write down your top 3 ideas and narrow them down as a couple over dinner. I would for sure have a salad, main course, side dish and dessert. Use your favorite places to eat out for your inspiration and take it from there.
For desserts you could make your own as a couple the night before or buy local from a bakery the day of your wedding (have your family do this for you). Think outside of the box, if you are doing Mexican food you could do churros. If you are having incorporate rican food you could have flan as the dessert. The idea is the menu would flow as well as have special meaning to the two of you.
Print out your menu for each guest to have on their plate. It adds to the experience for your guests as well as adds to the decor of the day: https://www.zazzle.com/boho_terracotta_elegant_minimalist_wedding_menu-256746565743541898
