Their love story as told by Emma:
“Jonathan and I have known each other for almost 7 years. Music is what first brought us together and has been a staple in our relationship ever since. Whether it’s covering songs, writing, or leading worship at church together, I always feel most at home singing with him. So of course, he used music to propose to me last year!
It was my birthday weekend, February 2017, and we decided to go hiking in Armstrong Woods. Once we parked, he pulled our ukulele out of the trunk of the car. I didn’t think much of this, he usually writes me a silly song for birthdays, anniversaries, etc. It was a beautiful hike, surrounded by redwoods and we even found a waterfall.
Once we made it to the top of a particularly steep hill, the trees opened up into a small clearing with a gorgeous view. He sat on a rock nearby and pulled out the ukulele. I sat next to him, expecting a silly birthday song, and was surprised with the most beautiful song about our relationship. There was just so much love at that moment, remembering all of the things that happened the last 5 years that brought us closer together.
I’m already crying, and then he puts the uke down, gets down on one knee and asks, “Will you play music with me forever?” Cue waterfall flowing out of my eyes. I’ll cherish that moment in my heart forever, the moment we worked so long and hard for. Jonathan is my best friend and I am so beyond honored to stand by him and walk through all of life’s adventures as his wife.
The rest of the day was amazing as well, he surprised me by having both of our families (his family came all the way from Bakersfield and Fresno!) come together for a celebratory dinner and then surprised me AGAIN with all of our friends waiting to celebrate us at his house. It will always be my second favorite day ever! The first being our wedding.” -Emma Lott
